Hidden gem in Old Bangkok!!!by PN guests :) on 08/08/13
After visiting family in the UK for a month, we decided to break the long flight home with a couple of days in Bangkok and found this place on Tripadvisor. What a find! The hotel is beautiful: very quirky decor, tranquil common areas, friendly staff and close to everything.
I'm traveling on my own with my 8 and 6 year olds so booked a family room. We were blown away when we walked in. Every wall is painted, mural style, with fantastic retro designs and the centerpiece is a very artistic wall painting of a Thai Yaksha giant, decorated with gold paint and looks stunning. There are two sleeping beds plus a huge four-poster daybed with murals all around.
There are fans as well as air con in the room so we have been cooling the room down with air con in the evening before turning it off before bed, leaving the fans on all night. A door opens onto a small balcony for a bit of "fresh" Bangkok air. It is so much more pleasant than being stuck in the artificial obligatory air con fustiness of a big hotel!
The whole of the ground floor walls are decorated with replica vintage Thai shop booths, each set into the wall like a real stall, and each floor has mural paintings depicting various Thai scenes. There are little nooks everywhere with some treasure from times gone by to discover.
Last but certainly not least, there is a child friendly roof top bar with an incredible view of a huge golden Buddha which is lit up at night.
Breakfast is provided and is a set menu each morning. The kids ate some of it and then gobbled down some toast with honey on. I thought it was delicious. You can also order between 12-10pm from a small but tasty menu, or there are plenty of places nearby to eat.
I nearly didn't book this hotel as it doesn't have a pool, but am really glad I did. The kids have made some friends amongst the other traveling children here and have spent hours playing hide and seek, playing in the large playroom, or hanging out on the swing on the main deck, while I lie on the Thai recliners reading and drinking in the ambience, or planning our adventures using the free Wifi.
We will definitely return here next time we're in Bangkok, next time for a longer stay, it's a real gem.
