If you're looking for a nice place to stay in Bangkok, or searching for a Bangkok Boutique Hotel, there are so many choices that it may be hard for you to decide among them. If your focus is not big chain hotels, but smaller, charming, vintage, kids friendly or “green” hotels that offer unique decor, delicious breakfast and attentive services, as well as a good value, Phranakorn Nornlen is an option you should consider. We are a small hotel situated within the Old Bangkok district, near the Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha, Khaosan Road, China Town and the river shuttle stop at Thewet Pier.

Wonderful Place to Relax

On arrival, I was slightly disappointed by the room, which was quite small and basic. There wasn't a closet and I was befuddled by the clear window from the bedroom to the bathroom with only a small curtain blocking the view. But the clever wooden shelving created space, and the room ended up being perfectly comfortable.

What we loved about this hotel was the food and the whimsical lounge area. It felt like being a resort by the pool, drinking amazing smoothies and eating the best yellow curry of our Thailand trip. After a few days in Bangkok, we really appreciated having a mini-resort to return to in the middle of the city. The breakfasts also were fantastic, and we appreciated the cheap coin laundry after the ordeal (and expense) of washing clothes in China. The free welcome snack and drink were a wonderful touch.

The location also grew on us when we began taking the water taxi. The trip to "downtown" Bangkok can be a nightmare with traffic, but this hotel's location was much more convenient to temples and the Golden Pavilion than a location on the Sky Train would have been.

Finally, the staff was nice and helpful and allowed us to cancel two nights when our travel dates changed even though that was against the cancellation policy.
