A hidden gem
by PN guests :) on 01/07/13
The Phra-Nakorn Norn-Len is a little gem of a vintage guest house in Old
Bangkok. From the personalised chalkboard welcoming all new guests by
name to the fresh juice on arrival it's the small touches that make this
place special. It has a lovely garden where you can enjoy lunch or
breakfast and also a roof terrace complete with its own herb garden and
pet rabbits. It also serves really good coffee which appears to be very
rare in Thailand.
It's located away from the main hustle bustle of
central Bangkok but the river taxi pier is only a short walk away and is
the most pleasant way to travel around Bangkok anyway. Even if you get a
bit lost we found two really nice temples to visit within walking
distance that we had pretty much to ourselves.
The rooms are quirky
and come complete with hand made toiletries and a daily supply of Thai
tea. You will get some mosquitoes (it was rainy season) but there was
always a supply of free hand made natural repellant to use. We bought
some from their shop and this lasted us through our entire trip and was
much nicer to use than the usual DEET products.
I recommend you pay
the extra for an airport pick up especially after a long flight. Once
you arrive you get given a map with directions in Thai you can show taxi
drivers as this helps them find the place. The staff are all really
helpful in planning your trip, booking onward travel etc.
I'm sure you will find cheaper places to stay but none will be as quirky or charming as here.
